CAPETOWN, November 29. Major-General Lord Methuen, who is marching to the relief of Kimborley, officially reports that ho defeated 8000 Boers at the Modder River on Tuesday last, after desperate fighting, lasting ten hours.
Ho says it was one of the hardest and most trying fights in the annals of the British Army. The Boers were strongly entrenched, with a number of heavy guns, and outflanking was 'impossible. Tho British Artillery and Naval Brigade specially distinguished themselves.''
