SENIOR CUP.

WANGANUI KEGINAS v WANGANUI BRITANNIAS. (St. John's Hill.) Francia won the toss from Armstrong, and put the Britannias into bat in order, if possible, to make them bat twice on tho slow pitch. Though slow, tho pitch played well, and reflected credit on the cartaker (Brighton). Lewis and Armstrong faced the bowling of Francis and Bartlelt. Both trundlers began with a maiden; Armstrong then got a brace off Bartlett, Lewis a 3 off Francis, and Armstrong a stolen single, when Franciß bowled Lewis with a slow. Pownall came in. Armstrong snicked Bartlett to leg for a single, and Pownall 'pulled the same bowler to the leg boundary for 4, but was bowled nest ball. With Gordon in, runs came faster, principally from the newcomer, who put Bartlett out of the ground for 5. Armstrong then got well on to Francis to leg for 3, and Gordon hit the same bowlor for two, but Armstrong was run out in attempting 1 a third run. M'Lcan came in, and after scoring a single was clean bowled by Bartlett. Delves was tho next batsman, and cemented the now partnership by driving M'Kay, who had replaced Francis, out of the ground for 5. Gordon then got a single, and Delves two 2's, which yielded 10 off M'Kay's first over. Another 4 to Gordon off Bartlett and several singles to each batsman. After Delves had notched a single off M'Kay, Gordon landed tho next ball into long-on's hands, and retired in favour of Hogg. Bartlett bowled a maiden. Hogg, after biting M'Kay to the leg boundary, vacated in favour of Taylor, M'Kay getting a good one in. Delves, after getting double figures, was well taken off M'Kay in the long field, and Parsons caught Tucker off tho.same bowler. Francis caught Taylor in the slips off Bartlett, and the innings looked ovor, but Blyth and Lancaster played stubbornly, necessitating a change in the bowling, Clayton replacing 1 M'Kay at the top end. Bartlett then bowled Lancas- j ter, and Francis caught and bowled Ward, tho innings closing for 78, not a big total, considering that the Reginas were without the regular bowlers — the "Messrs Cave, M'Lean, Swan, and Gillies being absentees. Francis and Naylor were tho first batsmen, the former taking strike to Gordon. A bye was the first score, Naylor then getting one off Gordon. Delves started from the other end, but was not up to bis usual trim, getting to leg somewhat, and Francis scored .a 2 and a boundary off his first over. Gordon then secured Naylor — clean bowled — which let in Caldwell, who played the remainder of the over. A single to Fjancia off Delves; Caldwell then secured a boundary off the same bowler, following it up by a single. The same batsman then ' got Gordon away for a unit, and Francis pulled him for two, but had to play i tho remainder of the. over — four exceedingly good balls. Taylor was then tried in lion of LDelves, and amply justified bis selection. He commenced with a maiden. Then Francis got a good three off Gordon to leg, and placed Taylor past third man for' a single, liut'with his fifth ball the bowler securedjCaldwell with a beautiful bailer. BartlettTthen joined Francis, and the partnership of the day resulted, S^Deing added before Francis was tempted by Lewis to slog at one which he mishit into the safe Tianda of "Johnnie Brigga." The outgoing batsman, had played good cricket for Ids 38, which included five boundaries. When he left the Britannia's total had been reached. A change, however, then took place, as the next eight wickets 'only ! yielded 15 runs, included in which were a four each to M'Kenzie and M'Kay, and a two and o five to Clayton. Bartlett, after scoring brilliantly four fours, a three, and a two. was leg-before to I*ewis, and tile others failed, to score. Taylor and Lewis bowled well, the former ■ particularly so, but Hogg and Delves were off colour. The Britannias then commenced thoir second innings, and at half-post 5, when stumps were drawn, had scored 20 for three wickets, Armstrong playing steadily for six, not out.
