H. BIRD. , THE TKANSVAAL. (Press Comment.) A further and unmistakcablo evidence of the supremacy of R. Hannah and Co. in tho boot manufacturing world in New Zealand, is the fact that out of nil other manufacturers, this firm has been selected by the Government of Now Zealand to supply one thousand pairs of boots for tho Transvaal contingent, to bo made out of tho very best leather produced, and of such a nature .is lo withstand tho rcugh usage- to which they will bo subjected during the present campaign, in tho rugged country of South Africa. A great deal depends upon the durability or otherwise of boots supplied to troops. It may be remembered that in. one of our lato campaigns disastrous results happeued through brown paper boots supplied by a shoddy manufacturer. The lives, and it may be the existence of tho empire, depends upon many contingencies, one of which, above all others, is that our soldiers must be well shod. We havo no doubfc our New Zealand boys will worthily uphold tho reputation of our part of the empire, and that their ability to do so will not suffer but on tho contrary be assisted in a great measuro by that sine qua non well-shod feet. It says much when in addition to ordinary output, this thousand pairs can be put through in one week. We have much pleasure in congratulating Messrs R. Hannah nnd Co. RACES !
