BIRD. THE TKANSVAAL. (Press Comment.) A further and unmistakeahlc evidence of the supremacy of R. Hannah and Co. in the boot manufacturing world in New Zealand, is the faofc that out of all other manufacturers, this firm has been selected by the Government of New Zealand to supply one thousand pairs of boots for the Transvaal contingent, to bo made out of the very best leather produced, and of such a nature as to withstand the rcugh usngo to which they will be subjected during the present campaign, in the rugged country of South Africa. A great deal depends upon the durability or otherwise of boots supplied to troops. It may be romembcred that in one of our lato campaigns disastrous results happened through, brown paper boots supplied by a shoddy manufacturer. The I'ves, and it may be the existence of tho .mpire, depends upon many contingencies, one of which, above all others, is that our soldiers must be well shod. We have no doubt our Now Zealand boys will worthily uphold the reputation of our part of the empire, aud that their ability to do so will not suffer but on the conliary be assisted in a great measure by that sine qua non well-shod feet. It says much vhen in addition to ordinary output, this thousand pairs can be put through in one week. We have much pleasure in congratulating Messrs R. Htvnnnh and Co,
