WAITOTARA COUNTY COUNCIL.
Tho usual monthly meeting of the above body was held at the Board's offices, Ridgway Street, this morning, when there were present. — Messrs W. Ritchie (chairman), G. S. Robertson, G. Mullius, A. Tawse, G. Mitchell, J. Peal, S. Handley and J. Dcmpsey. . Bank Balance — A credit balance .of ■4306 2s 4d was reported. Mission Line — A letter was received from Mr R. W. Low asking that the drains on the Mission Line bo attended tc. The matter was referred to the foieman. , Small Birds Nuisance— Letters were lead from the Wanganui, Rangitikei, suid Patoa County Councils in reference to tho small birds nuisance. Tho chairman and Cr Tawsc were appointed a committee , to meet a committee of the Wanganui County Council on tho matter with a view to taking concerted action for poisoning small birds. Tenders — Tho following were accepted: G. W. Russell, No. 179, Tokop.aru East, metalline;, 4s 4d ppr yard; A. McCullum, No. 180, formation, Bailey's Road, ,£2 7s per chain.' ' The tenders for painting the Kai Iwi Bridge and erecting a bridge on Tokomaru West Road were declined. Fresh tenders are to be called. Dairy Industry Act— A letter waa read from Mr J. D. Ritchie, secretary of the Department of Agriculture, informing tho Council that it was contemplated bringing into operation section 5 of the Dairy Industry Act, so far as the inspection of dairies and cows from which the
public milk supply is drawn is concerned. It was pointed out that the cost would not be greater than at prosent. After dis-.cussion tho following resolution was passed: — "Tho Borough of Wangamii Laving hitherto taken tho whole control of tho inspection and fmpei vision of ciairics for Hie town supply, and tho uairy factory industry not having developed in this county, wo have had no_ occasion to put the Act into operation, consequently no expense has been thrown on tho County, and as you do not anticipate the expense will be more than hitherto we have pleasure in falling in with the Department's views." Gravel Pit— A letter was read from Mr I/F. Christie re the fence at the gravel int. asking that it bo re-ereclcd. It was decided that the final payment 011 Gordon's fcontract be withheld until the
fence bo put in as good repair as before the contractor went in.
Ramritala West Road— Mr E. Bunting attended, and complained that the slips had narrowed the new road, rendering it unfit for traffic. It was re,'olved to put on an extra surfaceman.
The Boundary Road— Mr E. Cullinano r.Hended, and "asked that about five chains of the Town Belt Road be nietalled. It was~pointed out that the road in oi;estion was under the control of tho Borough Council, who could recover half tho cost from the Waitotara Council.
Accounts to the amount of ,£441 6s Gd were passed for payment, and the Council adjourne'l.
