WANGANUI COUNTY COUNCIL.
The usual monthly mooting of tlip above wns commenced at 11.30 this morning at ihe County Offices, TayUuvillf, when there wore present — Crs A. Iliorgie (chairman), D. tt. Poison, J. E. Wilson, R. Neileon, K. E. Fletcher, A. M. Gcorgetti, T. W. Howie, and D. Ross. B.mlc balance.— A dohit of £752 Hh 1d was reported. Now County. — A letter was road from the IJnncfitikci County Council, resiioftin« the desire of iioi'thcrn ratppnyi-is to form a now county. The Chairman null Cr Poison wcro appointed a committee to confer with the Upper 'Wauguohii Road Board,' nnd rcpoit at next meeting. The clerk was also instructed to write the Rangitikci Council aikiitfj l\n' further information and, a sketch of the lauds in the Wanganui County which thoy suggest should be included in the new county. River Bank Road.— The matter r.\ (lie Itivor Bank cud of the cross road iroin Long Atie Valley was left in UlO I ands of Crs Wilson and Neilson.
Slaughter License at Ractihi. — A lettor, signed by eight settlers in the* linatihi district, was n-ad, praying tlint f ho. Council should not grant anyone » slaughtering license, unless it was only operative within two miles of the township of Itaetihi, and that the Council would tako the necessary steps to have tho local policeman duly authorised to enter the slaughtir-yards at any time for tho purpose of inspection. The petitioners pointed out that their reason, for doing this -was that a nvmber of settlers had lost cattle in a most mysterious mannor. Cr Ross reported that he had been in tho Ractihi district during tho last month, and was informed that it was the practice of the parson holding a slaughter license to kill cattle in the bußh, and what the Raetihi people desired was that cattle should be killed on the premises for which the license was granted. Cif Ross further stated that Mr E. M'Donncll had ottered to allow stock to bo killed on his farm by any person to whom the Council might give a license. Tt was resolved to write the petitioners for further information, and ask whether they would bo satisfied if cattle were killed at Mr M'Donncll's, and iurther to let tho Council know who is slaughtering in that district, thoro being no licenses iii existence there. Dairy Industry Act.— On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Cr Wilson, it was resolved that this Council deems it desirable that Section 5 of "Tho Dairy Industry Act, 1898." should bo brought into operation. Cr Fletcher dissented. Wa.igaohu Bridge,— The Chairman 10portcd that tho a«ont for Messrs John Burns and Co., who had contracted to supply iron bark timber for tho WanfT'iehn Bridge rontwrlor, had come from Auckland to sec him respecting gating pile? from Wellington, those which had been sent from New South Wales not •icing of proper dimensions. He (the Chairman) hud communicated with the .'Minister of Railways, with tho result jthat j had received a reply to the effoct \hat the Department could supply piles 0 f tho length required. Transfers. — A number of transfers were granted. Ferry approaches.— Cr Fletrher reported that a dozen yards of metal were required at the aproach to the AVaugaehu Ferry. The matter was -left in Cr Fletcher's hands. Crs Ross and Georgotti were deputed to arrange about tho approaches to tho Upokongaro Ferry being repaired, 'flip meeting adjourned t"l 2,
