"STRUCK OIL" AT THE DRILL

HALL.

The, production of " Struck Oil "jkt the Drill Hall last (Thursday) evening was surrounded with a lot of interest amongst the play-going public, and no 'doubt the management werej gratified not only at the attendance, but tbe generous manner in which the piece was received. The aotmg throughout was consistently good, betokening careful study and active rehearsal, whilst the staging showed that all matters of detail had been worked out in a practical manner, with due regard to stage effect. Miss Dora Mostyn deserved^ all the honors that fell to her lot in the* i portraiture of Lizzie Stofel,thelightß and shades surrounding this vivaoious, yet tender-hearted charaoter being well .brought out, and in aoting-and. singing a merited success was scored. Mr Charles Voss deserves equal praise for his clover dehnoation of John-Stofel, and throughout the three acts ably sustained a most exacting role to tlie evident satisfaction of the audience. Mr G. H. Cooper made up well in the character of the scheming Deacon Skinner, and acted the part in a most effective manner, Mr C. T. Sorim'geour gave evidence of good histrionic talent as the' doctor, andSlrs Charleß Voss made all that was possible out of the part of John's wife. , Messrs, D. "L. Dalzeil (Sergeant Flynri),. George Brown (Corporal Sharp), H. Armitage (officer of the day), Geo. ' Wallace (Rowley), A Carr (Bobbin); and Master Harry Voas (Billy Piper) completed the cast of characters, and without indiviJualising .theyj'alj OBBiated in working out the plot of the drama to the end.
