PROHIBITION IN THE CLUTHA.

Sib,— During the trial of partial prohibition in the Clutha electorate, you have from time to time published various statements made by ,the opponents of Prohibition, condemning the, trial as a failure. In order that your readers may sej that there is another side to the question, miy I ask that you will publish the following table, recently laid before the Police Commission by the Justioe Department :—: —

During the period of " no. license," the offences of forging and uttering, indecent behaviour, and obstructing the police have entirely disappeared from "the .'official records. In the second' column, headed " Three Years of No License," there is included six months of license (from January Ist to 3tme,3oth, 1894), yet, notwithstanding this, faok, the total number oithe various offences named fell from 264 under license to 60 under partial prohibition.
