A PARTY OF AMERICANS REPULSED
They Fail to Deceive the Spaniards.

Eeports from Madrid state that the Spanish authorities have decided to cut the American cables to Cuba if the remaining cables to Cuba are cut by America. Washington, May 23. An unsuccessful attempt was made by a party of Americans to cut the cable in Guantamo Bay, on the southern extremity of Cuba. The Amerioans entered flying' the Spanish colors for the purpose of deceiving the defenders, but the Spanish gunboat opened jfire and compelled them to retire. Reports from Key West state that the oable from Cienf ugos to Santiago de Cuba, which was cut, has been repaired. 1 Madrid, May 24. The Spanish Government has protested to the European Powers ogainat the Americans making use of the Spanish flag on the occasion of an unsuccessful attempt to cut the cable at Guantanamo Bay.
