(Per United Press Association.) Wellington, March 29. The Government, has decided to make a survey of alternative routes to the Wairarapa ana haS placea the work in the hands of Mr JDobson, one of the engineers engaged for some time on the Otira section. The native owners of the Ohotu Block on the Wanganui River have been anxious for some timeto prevent improvident members from parting with their land and have approached the Publio Trustee. Various obstacles have been found in the way of his immediate interference, bnt at the request of the Government he is drafting a Bill to enable the land to be handled by the Public Trustee in the interests of the natives on the plan of the West Coast Settlement Reserves. The block contains ab3ut 90,000 acres. The Times officially denies the rumours published in various pipers lately as to the retirement of Messra Cadman and McKenzie.
