THE FEDERAL ELECTIONS.

Sydney, March 5.
The polling day for the Federal elections was yesterday observed as a holiday. The elections passed off quietly throughout the colonies.
The lateßt returns show that the following are the leading candidates : — Barton, Carruthers, MoMillan, Reid, Lyne, R E O'Connor, Sir J Abbott, Walksr, and Wise, the last two having replaced Oopeland and See as returns came in.
About 140 small returns are still to come in, but it is almost; certain that Cardinal Moran has little chance of beiug included amongst tho ten.
The Premier drove the Hon Mr Seddon to the various pointa of interest yesterday aftornoon, culling at the principal polling booths.

The following ten will probably be elected : — The Premier, Dr Quick, Peacock, laaacs, DeakiD, Trenwith, Sir Graham Berry, Fraser, Sir William Zeal and Higgins.
Hobabt, Maroh 5.
The Federal returns are incomplete. The following are leading:— Sir Phillip Fyßb, Sir E Braddon, Henry, Lewis, Dobson, Brown, Grant, Clarke, Moore, and Collins.
