WANGANUI JOCKEY CLUB.
The Annual Report. The following ia the report of the committee to be submitted at the annual meet ing of the club, which takes place at Chavannes' Hotel on Wednesday. July 22nd, at 8 p.m : — Your committee have the pleasure of submitting tbe annual statement oi accounts for the year ending June 30th, 1896. Members will notice that the receipts amount to £4959 09 8d as against £4715 9s 5d for 1895. The stakes have been increased from J33142 5s Od to £3020, and after spending £465 11s 5d in permanent improvements we close the year with a credit balance of £32 13s 9d. This does not include the amount of £306 transferred from the jookeys and trainers account as authorised by the conference. OE this money £157 10a was donated to the Wanganui Hospital building fund and £10 10s to the Brunner Relief Fund, leaving a balance of £138 to go the general fund, so that our profit and loss account stands at £1314 9s 7d as against £1132 15s lOd for 1895. Your committee have put a drain across tbe course at a cost of £99 2s Bd, This answers very well, completely removing the water from the lower end of the course and grounds. The course, tracks and buildings are in a good state of repair. The thanks 'of the club are due to Mr Chavannes, Dr Tripe and all other honorary officials of the dub for the satisfactory manner hi which thoy performed their several duties. The following members retire from the committee in accordance with the rules, viz., Messrs R. Higgle, Drs Connolly and Saunders, Mr Fletcher, and Messrs Alexander and McCarthy have resigned owing to their having left Wanganui. The retiring members are eligible for reelection. Mr Nixon has given notice that he will more at the meeting the following resolution : — " That it be an instruction to the incoming comniittee to request ihe club's delegates at the next conference to usg their best endeavours to effect such an alteration in rule 131 that horse owners shall have the right to appeal against a decision of the stewards to a higher body ; Whether such decision be arrived at on question of faots or on points relating to the interpretation of the rules of raoing.
