MELBOtTBNB. AagUat 1. In the Legislative Assembly the Government proposal to raise the duty on colonial refined sugar from 6s to 5s Sd wsw carried after % warm diaensuion. The Government was urged to lesva tha duty as at present, otherwise the Colonial Sugar Refining Company wenld 1oe« the benefit of the differential duty. On the other hand it was contended that threefourths of the shareholders resided in Sydney, and most ot tbe money wen* there, while the company was quitwealthy enough to do without differen, tial duties.
