Mr Eddy's Appointment.
A Divided Opinion-
Stsnbt, Judo 5.
The Legislative Assembly is still sitting, and no progress is made with business, owing to the obstructive taotios of the Opposition. The Speaker applied the olosure to Mr Thomas Rose, member for Argyle, who was making a stonewall Bpeeoh, and had spoken for three hours. Beports are in circulation that Mr .Eddy was offered a salary of £10,000, with two years' engagement, by the Victorian Government, to set the railways of the colony in order.
Beplying to a question in the Legislative Assembly, tho Minister of Hallways said he knew nothing of tais arrangement. There seems little possibility of the House agreeing to an inorease in Mr Eddy's salary. The House might vote a salary of £4000 if Mr Eddy were appointed sole Commissioner, bub the Government is unlikely to accept this*
