CORRESPONDENCE.
The Artesian Well Expenditure.
TO THB EDITOB.
Sib, — I beliove a contract has lately been let by the Borough Council for sinking eight more art9sian wells. It seems to mo that this is not a very wise proceeding on their part, taking inlo consideration the fact that the flow from 6&ch of tho<e already snnk appears to be lessening, and it it only reasonable to suppoiethat each new well sunk will have the effeot of making the flows from the old ones still less. I would like to learn (and other ratepayers would also) how muoh money has been spent by the Council in artesian well experiments, and how we have benefittod or aro likely to benefit by them P If some member of the Council will ask for a. return giving the desired information, his aotion will be appreoiated by a great number of ratepayers who (at present) are under the impression that tho benefit derived, or likely to be derived,is not equivalent lo the expenditure.— l am, etc.,
April 6th.
