February 13.
The well-known bootmaker Tobias waa charged at the Resident Magistrate Court to-day, with leaving his wife without adequate means oE support, also with assault. Tho charge of asßault was dismissed, but ho was ordered to pay ten shillings a week. He pleaded inability, and said that tho totalisator had killed his business.
Herbert Chester liua been arrested on a charge of issuing a valueless cheque for £10 on the Colonial Bank to Mr Cooke, of the Albion Hotel. He was remanded for a week. WELLINGTON. February 13. A woman named Sarah Ann Mears, a widow residing at Petone, is missing. She waa last seen on the Wellington wharf on Saturday night, and a letter written by Mrs Mears has reached the constable at Potone asking him to look after her nine children, some o£ whom are grown up.
