Mr C. B. Valentino, chief dairy expert for New Zealand, who arrived yesterday, says it is highly probable a largo syndicate will be formed shortly to run a direct line of steamers between Liverpool, Manchester, and New Zealand. He is convinced that New Zealand producers will have to be brought into closer communication with the Home consumer, as ot present colonial products pass through the hands of too many middlemen. Mr Valentine awaits the arrival of the Minister of Lands and Me Ritchie, and after conferring with them ho will start on a tour of inspection of the dairy factories and creameries of the colony. Mr Jellicoe has advised those interested in the petition ugainst the return of of Mr H. D. Bell for Wellington City to abandon the idea.
Ia the Bupretne Court this morning Mr Jellicoo, on behalf of Sir Robert Stout, applied to have removed from the file the petition against the return of Sir Robert Stout for Wellington City on the ground that the petition was not lodged ir> sufficient time. The Chief Justice and Judge Richmond will fix tbe date for hearing the argument on the motion, and, in the event of their Honors deciding in favor of Mr Jellicoe, counsel on both sides have agreed to let the petition be withdrawan.
