WELLINGTON.

January 9. In the Magistrate's Court to-day, J. W. Morrison, tailor, was charged under the Faotorieo' Act with permitting his female employes to work after one o'clock on Saturday afternoon. The girls in question gavo evidence that they were working on piece work. For the defence it was contended that the Saturday half- holiday only applied to those on daily and weekly wages, aud not to piece workers. Counsel for the Inspector of Factories admitted this objection took him by surprise, and the case was adjourned until the 16th for further argument.
