AUSTRALIAN POLITICS.
(By Electric Telegraph — Copyright.) (Per United Press Association.) Sydney, December 2. Meters "Barton and O'Connor have relinquished thoir briefs in tho Proudfoot ense. The rtaeon they give is that thoy found the statement of defence to the Roilway CommHsionors' claim in the will of tho lute Mr David Proudfoot iuaumciently stamped, therefore tho plaintiffs were not odministrators and could not prosecute, as this would bring tho Stamps Office, which ia in the Crown Department, into a conflict. Both Minntors felt compelled to withdraw i -om the case. Mr Barton referred to tho mutter in tho Logiolativc Asaombly, and explained thnt ho took tho retainer moro as a mattor of Bur etiquette thnn from personal desiro. Ho considered, however, that tho connection between tho Railway Commissioners and tho Govornmant was a shadowy one. Sir H. Parkcs characterises the action as a Glaring one, and says it must not be tolerated. Leo, who has tho motion on tho Order Paper on the subject, declines to accept Mr Barton's explanation and will force tho lnitter to a division.
