COURT OF APPEAL

The Sydenham Licensing Cases.

(Per United Press Association.)

Wellington, October 30.

In tho case of the Sydeoham East and other Sydenham Licensing Committees, the Conrt of Appeal unanimously decided that Judge Denniaton's judgment was right in law, as it existed at the date of his decision, but the Court was equally divided in opinion on the question whether section 21 of the " Alcoholic Liquor Hale Control Aot, 1893," is retrospective in its operation and applies to the Sydenham case. The Court being equally divided, tho judgment appealed from stands, and the licenses granted in the four districts into which Svdenham is divided are quashed. No costs were allowed. Mr Bell applied for leave to appeal to the Privy Council, and tho application was adjourned to Tuesday.
