Stevens and Gorton's Stock Eeport.

At Palmerston on the sth in»t. we had large entries of both cattle and sheep. The attendance of the publio was very large, bo much so that bnyera had a difficulty in getting near to the pens whioh they wished to buy. Prices for cattle of all classei were easier, but with the exception of one line of cows we disposed of the -whole at or after the sale. Shoep wore rather dull of sale at first start, but the market improved as the sale went on, and later rates were fully maintained. At Bulls on tho 10th init. cattle met with a good demand at an improvement on Palmerston prices, probably owing to better reports from England. The demand for lambs and young sheep was good, but old sheep Bhowed a disposition to recede in values. We quote as follows :— At Palmerston- Cattle : Fat bullocks, £5 19a ; fat cows, £4 to £4 10s j forward bullocks, £4 10a to £4 12s 6d j 2£ and 3 year Blears, £ 3 18s to £4 5s j 2 year nteer», £3 2s ,• forward cows, £3 16s to £4j cows in calf, £3 17a to £4; empty heifers, £3; freezing steers, £2 8s j yearlings to 18 mouths hoifors, £2 2a; weanerj, 325. Horses.— Bulls : Considerably over 100 horsei of all classes came forward for our sale here on the 9th inst. Tho attendance was good, but the demand vory limited We sold most of the unbroken horses' offered at prices satisfactory to the venders uut a large number of the unbroken horses were turned out unsold. We hope by the date of our next tale to have a proper building wherein we can do more justice to th« merits of the horses offered. 'The following were the prices realised :— Unbroken light hones on account of Mr Gillies, £3 JOa to £5 5s 5 on account of Mr J. G. Wilson, £3 10s to £10 12s 6dlight hacks, £4 15s to £7 10s ; upstanding do, £10 10s to £13; harness! horses, £10 to £15 ; draught (of good stamp), £10 5s 6d to £22 ; horses, dray and harness, £30 ; ponies £4 to tG 5s 6d. '

The number of arrivals at the various ports ot the colony during the month of December was 2022, while the departures numbered 949, Of the arrival*, 889 were from the United Kingdom, 1012 from New South Wales, 431 from Viotoria, 104 from Tasmania, and 86 from other plaoes j 595 of them came to Auckland, 876 to Wellington, and 535 to Inveroargill, Of tho departures, 63 were for the United Kingdom 498 for New South Wales, 254 for Viotons, 83 for Tasmania, and 51 for other places.
