Junior Cup.
The newly formed Kaierau Club met Wanganm on the Recreation Ground on Saturday afternoon in the first contest of tho season for the Junior Cup, and after a stubbornly-contested game were returned tho victors. The game was started in the presence of a number of spectators about 3 30, and after some give and-take play, principally in neutral territory, the Kaieraus gradually took the ball to their opponents' 25, and as the result of a bit of good combined play, H. Richardson scored a merited try, from which J. Purnell landed a pretty and unmistakeable goal amidst enthusiasm. The game was renewed with vigour, Wanganui getting on a rush, and jUBt before half time Kitson crossed the line, but the shot at goal was a failure. In the second spell, strenuous efforts were made by the contestants to increase their scores, but without effect the game terminating as above in favour of Kaierau. The game was noticeable for tho large amount of misdirected energy shown on both sidesowing to tho want of practice ; endeavours should also be made to keep down tho unnecessaiy amount of talking indulged in. For the winners — Richardson, 0. Peake, the brothers Purnell and Craig, J. Grogan and Ecclesfield were conspicuous by good play, while for Wanganui Leys, Caldwell, Kitson, Blythe, Deighton, Beasley, Mahoney and W. Craig, strove hard to avert defeat. Tho inclusion of Leys in Wanganui's ranks was Bomowhatin questionablo taste, for although this sterling player was within the readingofthorules.notfuviug played this season for his club in a Senior Cup match, still the handicap was a big one, and there can be little doubt that but for his vigorous play Kaiorau's score would have been still further added to. Messrs A. Willis and A. Gray umpired for Kaierau and Wanganui respectively, and Mr JS. W. Andrews acted aa referee.
In the match between teams from the Turakina and Warrengate Schools on Saturday on the letter's ground the former proved victorious by two tries (E. Hogg and W. Day,) and a potted goal (H. Clark) as against a try obtained for Warrengate by J. Harrison, from which no result followed, Mr E. Morse acted as referee and Messrs A, Horse and Digan as umpires ior Wacrengate and Turakina respectively. The visitors were suitably entertained at the conclusion of the game;
