It is stated that the Unionists are anxious to settle the dispute, and are willing to leavo the matter to six disinterested persons chosen from the members of the Government, Pastoraliats, and Unionists. The pastoralists are willing to confer with the men if the freedom of contract is admitted. Sydney, May 1. Sir G, Grey received an enthusiastic welcome at Brokon Hill. A large procession of labour bodies received him. He delivered a lecture in the evening on federation. Melbotone, May 1. The third regiment of Militia at Ballarat refused duty owing to the officer arresting a sergeant. Only eight turned up on parade. Adelaide, May 1. A split has occurred among the master bakers on the question of freedom of contract. The majority decided to recognise the principle.
