M«.yl. It has been definitely decided that the Attorney-General shall initiate proceedings to tost the validity of the Edwards' appointmont, and the Hon. Mr Buckley is now in consultation with Sir Robert Stout as to the form the process shall tako. Mr Vogol is also zotained as solicitor. Special powers are vest in the Attorney- General which enable him to raise such questions before the assembled judges, who may, if they think fit, resolve themselves into a Court of Appeal. J
Mr E. B. Baker, Sheriff of the Supreme Court, is to be retrenched, and the duties fulfilled by tho Registrar. The proposals for alteration in the Education syllabus submitted by the Educational Institute are now under consideration by the Minister of Education. Some change will probably be made, but in what direction is not intimated.
The Customs revenue for April was £132,776 as against £126,282 for April last year and £122,718 for March. Anokl»nd contributed £33,205 ; Wellington, £22,480 ; Ohristchurch, £20,912 ; and Dunedin, £33,379.
The beor duty for the month was £ 4997 as against £5492 for March, and £4615 for April laßt year. The amount collected at Auckland was £1109; Wellington, £525; Ohristchurch, £1026; and Dunedin, £1146.
