EDUCATION BOARD.

Tlie monthly meeting of tho Wanganui Education Board was commenced last e\cmng. Present— Messrs Carson (chair), Hmley, Fry, Biker Budoc, Beokett, Notnwn, and Rev. J. Boss. The Board went into committee, and, upon resuming, reported the following appointments. — Resolved, To send on Mr A. Proudlock's name (0 thcKoponga Committee, and refer tlio question of his transfer from Pihama to the Executive. The resignation of Agnes Martin, as pupil teacher at Pnlmeraton, was accepted. Resolved, That Elizabeth J Kelly be appointed to a cadetship at Aramoho, subject to necessary certificate being obtained by her. The appointment of a teacher at Mangatoki was left to the Eieoutive. Resolved, That Leonard McDonald bo made 4th clasi pupil teacher at Stanway. Mr W. G. Sorgeant was appointed probationer at tho Wanganui Boys' School. Resolved to forward tho application of Mis 3 Monk, of Manutahi, for an assistantship at Torrace End, to the Committee. Mr W. H. Warren, Secretary of SchoolCominKiionors, wrote stating that section 90 IVtlaieiston North, would be reserved for the School Committee; The question of obtaining a school site at Westmerc, for €23 per bcio, was referred to tho Executive. The matter of ecndiug school exhibits to the New Plymouth Exhibition waa roferrod to the Executive, Tlw Wnitnna Committee wrote requesting aa9'i3tanco in building and desks for the new aided school. — Resolved, That tho lioard could not nss'ut with building, but would help in the nutter of desks and a little furniture. With reference to Iho water supply for Kitirangn School, it was resolved, That tho Committee be authorieod to sell the existing tank and apply tho proceeds toward the cost of obtaining artesian water. It nas decided that as the Board had no titlo to the land at Oroua Bridgo, they could not build a residenca. The Karoro School Commissioners, Messrs Leggins and Keith, having resigned, it was resolved to write to Mr Keith and aßk him to recommend somebody as his successor. With regard to tho application for additions to the accommodation at Stony Creek, it was resolved that tho Board could not entertain tho request. The account for rent at Bird Boad wa3 passed for payment. The value of the tank at Warrengate was allowed, and it vras decided to send two diml desks out. Resolved to have new roof put on Boys' School atFeilding, and the mattor wus roferred to Mr Fry. 1 A letter was received from Mr Hamilton, 1 of Eltham, with reference to hia returns. 1 The Inspector's report on the Eltham School ' was read. Mr Fry reported on the Makino Boad [ School ropairs and the account was passed ! for payment. Mr Fry also reported on tho > repairs done at Fielding, the account for ' which was passed. > Mr Hurley gave notice of motion for next 1 meeting, " That the petition of the residents on the Rowan- Opunake Road, near • Kaponga, be reconsidered, and that notico 1 of the date thereof be givon to the peti7 tioners at the corner of tho Manaia and 1 Opunako Roads." I A lotter was read from Mr O'Donovan with refer^nco to the Bird Road School. On tho motion of Mr Ross, a committee, 1 consisting of Messrs Hurley and Bridge, ' was appointed to go into the correspondence I and roporfc this (Tuesday) morning. On tho motion of Mr Hurley, seconded by Mr Bridge, it it as resolved that the atL ' tention of the Torraee End Committee be J directed to the poor average attendance 1 during the December quarter, and that the 1 Committee be requested to take steps to ' endeavour to improve the same.
