CHRISTMAS ENTERTAINMENT.
It speftks eloquently in favour of tho management and of tho popularity of tho Christ Church Lndies' Working Guild that tho Oddiollows' Hall was hist ovoning reallj well filled, und thoso present woro kopt thoroughly amused and ontertained from tho riao to the foil of tho curtain. Tho first part consisted of thirteen {alleait v, representing somo of tho nioro popular nursery rhymes/and tho avidity with which each subjoct was soucd upon bj tho littlo ones, followed by thoir spontaneous applause and that of thoir parents and guardians was proof positive of tho roalislio manner in whioh tho wholo was staged. Tho details, too, woro oxcollently carried oul-, and in nearly ovory instance theou'tain had to bo raised a sctond timo on some of tho prett ost and most affective scones thnt havo boon performed in Wanganui. A nurabor of vocal selections woro interspersed throughout, tlio contributors boing Miss Martin ("I dreamt that I dwelt"), Miss Pawson (" LaSorenata"), MrsSuisted (" At the Forry ") Miss Crouoher (" Should Ho Upbraid "), Mr Withers ("The Vicar of Bray ") and Mr Davidson (" Lovo Tido "), besides winch tho Garrison Band gavo two oxcellont and woll poi formed instrumental Bolootions. One of the features of this part was tho portoruinnco of tlio " May Day Festival," performed by twolvo little ladios uttired in pretty wbito costumes, some with red and others with bluo suihos, and all g.irlandod with llowors. Tho Queon of tlio May roposed gracefully at tho foot of tho Maypole, and her faithful subjects wont through, without fault, somo roally artistic ovolutions. "Flora's Feast," which was presented hore somo little timo ago with pronounced success, concluded tho ontcrtninmont, and if anything further may bo added by way of commendation to 41 c ii.tisdc groupings it is to Btato that tho eivlrni charaoters wero most faithfully delineated, while tho costuming was distinctly realistic. To Mrs H. Poake, as honorary secrotary, is duo praise for tho successful issue of tho entertainment, and to Mr T. H. Buttlo for tlio thorough manner iv which he, ns usual, carried out the really onerous duties of stage manager, and he richly deservod tho call beforo tho cuitaiu at tho termination of a flrst.olass entertainment.
