CRICKET.

On Saturday afternoon a cricket matoh was played between an eleven of the Press 0. C. and a team from Fordell, at thp latter place, the Press reps, being driven out in a brake by Mr T. Glover. The weather was not by any means favourable for cricket, as a heavy gale was Vowing ; and, to add to the discomforts of such, occasional showers fell during the afternoon. Play was commenced about 2 o'clock by Fordell going to the N wickets, facing Leys and Hartnett, who bowled all through the first innings, which closed for 59, Richardson 14 top scoror. Though the score was not large, it would have been much smaller had not. the Press attempted to put up a record of "missel," due no doubt to want of praotioe. After Fordell's first innings closed, an adjournment was made to Host Ruscoe's whore refresh - menthad been kindly provided by theFordell C. 0. Play was resumed by the Press going to the wickets, Wado and the erstwhile Wanganui "demon" W. B. Cave trundling"" for Fordell, and, aa will bo seen by the small scores registered, with a fair amount of success, tho lost wicket falling when the score stood at 42, Jones 13 and Tiller not out 7 highest scorers. Thefielding of Fordoll was fairly good, certainly an improvement on their Press opponents. Fordell again went to the wickets, and before the last one fell 86 had been knocked up". " As several of the latter team had to leave by the train, the matoh was decided on the first innings-. As has for years been the case, tbo batting of the Press is their weak point, and if only one or two oould be depended on to male a y score the result of Press matoheswould be, at any rate, a little more diversified than haa been the case of late. Mr Moßeath aoted as umpire for the Press, who started for town about 6 o'clook, after giving numerous oheers for tho township and its people. Town was reached at 7 after a pleasant outing.
