Caledonian Society.

A general meeting of tbe above Bociety was held at the Steam Packet Hotel last night, Me J. T. Stewart being in the chair. There were blso present — Messrs Tawse, Spurdle, Thain, Patterson, Foster, J. L. Stevenson, Remington, Borlase, and the seoretary (Mr James Watt.) An apology was received from Mr T. D. Cummins. The minutes of last meeting having been read and confirmed, a discussion ensued on the advisability or otherwise of using Victorin Park for the annual gathering. A letter from the Town Clert stated the Council's willingness to allow the Park to be used for the purposes named, and on the conditions arranged by the committee (Messrs Patterson, Spurdle, and Cummins) of each body 10 appointed for that object, the permission to use the Park continuously to bo subject to the pleasure of the Council. It was estimated that the cost of fencing (25 chains), would bo about £42 10s, against which would be the realising on the fence erected on the racecourse, estimated to produce about £80; then thero would be sundry other small expenses, besides the erection of a stand estimated to cost £50. It was proposed by Mr Borlase, seconded by Mr Tawie, " That the course Bhown in plan No. 1 (submitted) «xcept centre track.be pegged out in Victoria Park, and that the committee decide whether it,or Bomo modification of it, be adopted, if the oommiltee are of opinion that the sports should be held there." This resolution ■« as put to the meeting and carried unanimously. It was decided also that the committee should visit the Park one day next week for the purpose oE pegging out the ground, which provides for a straight run of 105 yards on each side, and a total course of 440 yards, with half-circle ends. There being no other business, the meoting adjourned.
