Harding Assembly Ball.
As a pleasurable means of winding up the popular Harding As3ombly, which has been earned on during the winter months, a ball was arranged, and this eventuated last evening with considerable eclat at the Institute, t which had beon profusely decorated with.* bunting and evergreens, and presented a very pretty sight. The floor, too, waa in excellent condition, efficiently looked after by Messrs J. Crichton and Goldsact, who performed the onerous duties of M.O.s with evident satisfaction. Messrs Gower (piano), Riohardson (cornet), and Armstrong (violin) provided the musio with their well-known ability, The programmo contained no less than 24 welL-selected dancps, besides two extras, and it. was" estimated that over 80 couples were prosent. The dresses of the ladies generally were marked by good taste, some vory pretty combinations boing noticeable in the toilettes worn, and the rapidity with which the programmes of the fair sex were filled, and the evidsnt zest with which the dances were indulged in, bore eloquent testimony to the enjoyment of all; in fact, the Harding Assembly Ball was a decided success. The supper table was most temptingly. arranged,and the delicacies . and refreshments so bountifully provided by tho ladies was proof of the efficaoy of allowing this essential adjunct to a function of this kind to be solely in their charge. The gentlemen who worked on the committee to secure suoh a triumphant break-ing-up were Messrs Pereival, Gordon, Morton, Irvine, and H. Goldsack, and particular mention nky be mado of Mr J. A. Young; who, as honorary soctetary, is deserving of creditab'e mentiod for the performance of his arduous duties. Tho names of • the ladies' committee who so efficiently looked after the refreshments, and supervised the general arrangements in that direction were Metdamss Gowcr and Young, and the Misses Wilkinson. The committee also desire to thank Messrs T. Currie, J. Anderson, and Captain Ferry for the loan o£ bunting, etc., so effectively ÜBed in decora* ting the hall. #=■--■- ■
