In the New Zealand Clothing Factory is : to be seen a very handy brass stand, which is adjustable in almost any fashion, and on which Mr Ferguson has set out a tasty display of ties, shirts, socks, and other articles. This year the U.B.C are to alter their cobra, Cambridge blue having been decided on. There are too many blue and whites in rowing circles, and hence the necessity for tho change. We sincerely hope that under the new colours the club may be as euccessbs of yore. At the Police Court to-day Mr Brabant had before him a charge by Mr Robert Hair against Mr John McNair of failing to repair a dividing fence. After taking considerable evidence on both sides, His Worship ordered defendant to pay 2s Id to complainant, towards the cost of repairing the fence with costs 2s. Tho ladies who are responsible for tomorrow's gift sale in connection with the Childrens' Home have been busy to-day decorating the Oddfellows' Hall, and fixing up the stalls for to-morrow's opening. As the talc is in aid of a charity that deserves tha widest support we hope to sec a largo attendance of ladies and gentleman to-mor-row afternoon at the opening.
An examination of officers was held today by Colonel Stapp and Major Watt. The following were the candidates :— Hon. Major Purnell, Lieut. Neill, Lieutenant Chamberlain (Manchester Kifles), Captain Shields and Lieutenant Harold of the Wanganui Collegiate Cadets. The practical portion of the examination will take place at the'battalion parade this evening in the Drill Hall.
There is every prospect ot those who attend the N.Z.R.A. meeting at Dunedin in January lmv ing to camp out. Accommodation will be at a premium, and therefore there will bo all the more nccossity for those going away to take a good supply of blankets — Dunedin is cold, even in January. Captain Sommerville will leave hero on Boxing Day, and Silas Wall, wno knows as much of the working of these affairs as tha Captain, will probably be down before then to superintend the work of digging the trenches, etc.
