December 1. With reference to the dispute between importers and the Customs Department, as to discount on invoices, McArthur and Co. have received » letter from the Government. In regard to tho trade discounts on boots, the Government has agreed to these being taken off, and also the discount on sample*, but on the question of shirtings thej adhere to the charges unless they are cut into 7ft lengths, which are no use for trade purposes. No action has yet been token by the Auckland warehousemen re Mr Shannon's appointment, but the Warehousemen's Association is moving in the matter. ' Agents in town are offering over 4s a bushel for tho wheat crop to be harvested in February next, paying 25 per cent, in advance. An agent at Hamilton has orders for 9000 sacks at 4s 6d a bushel, delivered at any railway station.
