The criticism of tho Auckland Village Settlements is wrong when it says thoy are dependant on Government. That is utterly unfounded. Tlio contract was that tho Government should niako certain roads j and all the settlers ask is tho fulfilment ot the contract. The Auckland press have shown that if tho Government keep faith tho Boltlcmouts will bo pros.poious. It would appear that tho Government in the eyes of sound people may bieak faith with tho small settlors, hut in respect of the big ones arc bound to the letter of their agreement.
