April 28. Whilst engaged threshing yesterday nt Bell Block five stacks of oats and wheat on W. F. Hoskins' farm caught fire, and were totally destroyed. They wero not insured.

Owing to the agitat-on by the burgesses the Borough Council Inst night agreed to reduce the rates by a shilling in the pound, nnd propose a' 2s 9d rate, which includes water supply and charitable aid.
