Public Library Tea Meeting.
Tlio directors of the Public Library, w henover they havo solicited public aid towards raising funds to put tho institution onji hotter footing have always met with gracious assistance from the Indies of Wanganui. Thoro is nothing that delights the fair sex moro than a tea meeting, and though the work is hard thoy do not consider the troublo if their labour nehiovos its end. Last night they gave another example of their willingness to assist in such matters, and tho result was very satisfactory, though the attendance was not as groat as had beon anticipated. Tho tablos wero presided over by tho following ladies, who, it is needless to say, did their best to make an attractive display as well as satisfy tlio appotites of their hungry ■» isitors :— Mts Denniston and Mrs McLean, assisted by Misses Moore, Constanco Browor and A. Watt; Mrs Dymoek and Mrs Stewart, ass ; sted by Misses Ward, btewart, and Whito; Mrs Peako and Mrs Tennent, assisted by the Misses Enrlo (2) ; Mrs Krijll and Mrs Jackson, assisted by Misses KnJl, Wright, Welsh, and Martolli ; Mrs Barnicoat and Mrs Turner i MvsCutfleUl mid Miss Taylor, assisted by Mrs B. and J. Taj lor; Mrs White- and Mrs Ballnnce, assisted by Misses Tonks, P. Jones, and Marshall ; Mrs Burnett, Mrs Carson assisted by tho Misses Carson and Sim ; Mrs Cromer and Miss Cromer, assisted by Missed Cremor and Lockctt. At tho children's tablo Misses Blyth nnd McNoill wero in command,assißted by Misses Eyro and McLoan. Lost but not by any means least was tho butcholors' table, presided over by Mrs Baddeley and Mus Endcrby psauldil by Missps Gray, Nownmn nnd Robortson. Tho concert afterwards gavo satisfaction to nil, and tho finalo by tlio Upokongaro Dramatic Club was received with continuous rounds of applause which their performance justly deserved. During tho ovoning Mr Carson, at the request of the directors, thanked the ladies which had given tables, or assisted at them, the performers at the concert and entertainment and tho general public. He bespoke from tho latter tho assistance that was required to Leup tho institution going without Gtovoroniont aid, and pointed out its valuo to the community generally.
