AGRICULTURAL PROGRESS.
Tax number of agricultural holdings in tho colony in February 1888, was .14,743, an increase of 1411 on the provious year. Theso holdings wero abovo ono acre in oxtent, and included freehold and leasehold. In Otago the number last year was 8164 Canterbury 7037, Wellington 4514, Auek" land 8121. Wellington had tho largest increase, about 500 in the yoar. Tho increase in tho area under wheat in tho year was vory marked, tho quantity being 357,359 acres against 253,025 in the previous year, Tho whole of tho Provincial districts show an increase, Canterbury giving tho most brilliant results, as follows :— 237,551 acres against 169,622 for tho previous year-
