He was bred by Mr > Maoadara, Kepcnllooh, oat of a pare Ciydeidale mare parohaised from Lorn Campbell, Esq., Hoseneatb, whose well-known stock of mares sarposies any in the West Country for symmetry and parity of breeding. She w»s also the dam of Montrose, g.g., sire of Mr Wall's Pride of Scotland. Empress has been exhibited seven times, taking three first and four second prizjs. Empress ia fall-iister to Emperor, who has been the champion horse of Otago for many years. In 1881 he wai selected by the Knapd»le Society, at the Dun9din Show, to travel in their district. Napoleon's sire, George Buohanan, by Tom, who gained the premium at Cupar, Fife, was bred by Mr Bnohanan, Coldrach, ont of his prize mare, who gained a number of first prizes at Drymen Show, and likewise the Highland Sooiety's prizo of £10. Napoleon, when two years old, gained tbe first prize at Booblyvie and Gartmore Agricultural Scoiety'a Show s when three years o'd, the Jnyerary prerainm t» lerve mares in that district, and the following yeir the premium in the southern district of Forf arshire ; and after travelling a number of seasons in Otago, where he had been successful both in the stud and show ring, he was sold for £400 to Win, Boag, Esq., Canterbury, where he was victorious in the chow ring for three successive years. Empress, her dam Nanoy, imported by W; H. Welpy, Esq.,land bred by Alexander Findlay, Esq., Sandyhills, Biillieatone. She was got by tbe celebrated Garvary horse and her dam Jean, by Scotsman, the property of Mr James Kirkwood, Kilmars. Nancy was first shown as a 3-year-old in 1 853, when ahe took first prize at Hamilton, first prize at Bailliestone,seoond at Glasgow, and seoond at|Kilbride, and the following year shown as a brood mare at Glasgow and Kilbride, where she received similar honors. His sire, Yonng Prince of Wales, by Drew's Prince of Wales, by General, by Sir Walter Scott by Old Clyde, by Scotchman, by Champion, which takes us fully fifty yearajoack amongst the grand old sires of Clydesdale blood of Scotland. Lord Nelson, when a yearling, took first prizes at Oamaru and Tateri Shows In 1878, and as a 2-year-old first at Cbristchuroh and second at Oamarn and Dnuedin Shows. TORPEDO is a beautiful dark brown horse, standing over 16 hands high, with good bone, and well proportioned throughout, Of Musket it is needless to write : his sons— Martini-Henri, Trenton, Nordenfeldt, Matchlock, and a soore of othersspeak his fame. Fanny Fisher, the dam of Torpedo, is by that great English horse Fisherman, out of Coquette, and descends on her sire's s'de from -two St. Leger winners. Coquette also 1 has a strain of the same blood through Sheet Anohor, When we read that Sylvia (the dam 'of Martini-Henri) is by Fisnarmtn, and Onyx (dam of Nordenfeldt) is by a son of Fisherman, it will be seen how ulosely Torpedo is related to thete oelebrities. All Fanny Fisher's stook,viz.— Kingfish, Hippocampus, Isaac Walton, Piscatorions, irishwoman, Fishgirl, and Torpedo— have won races over all distances, and the first four- named have all sired winners. Mr Walters' two colts by Torpedo are most promising. Torpedo, by his build and Dreed, ia qualified to get both raorhonea and cross-country stook, for wbi-i. . ere is a steady demand. Good padu oks provided at York Farm for mares till stinted, when notice will be given, after whioh 2s per week will be charged.
