The Naval Artillery fired their first oompetition for the company's trophy on Saturday, when the following soores were mado :— P.O. Bevejje, 45 j Gunner Mahoney, 40 ; Buglor May, 40 ; Gunner Dawson, 39 ; Lioutenunt Nioholls, 36 j P.O. Kruse, 32 j Gunner O'Donnell, 32. 15 others fired, but but did not mako 32 points. The weather was bad for fihooting.
Tho Chronicle, the other morning in ita Parliamentary Gossip, ttated, with refer onoo to the discussion on tiir John Hall's question as to the Waitotara petition, that the Miniiter for Public Works very politely stated that the papers as to tho vailway inquiry might be obtaft&il if asked for. Nothing of the kind ooourred. The MiniKtur for Publio Works hastily left when tbe subjeot w.is mooted, and Mr Hislop, who knew nothing about the matter was put up to say he did not know whether any ing nlry was hold, There will be more heard of this matter.
