Received November 7, 2 a.mi Melbourne, November 5.— <V clerk from the Australian Mortgage Company who had been sent to cash a cheque at the English and Scottish Bank yesterday at noon plaoed the bag containing £435 in notea upon the counter. Some penon in the orowd romarked that he had dropped a note upon tho floor and while tbe olerk and others wore looking down for thn note, supposing that it hnd been dropped, the thief exchanged tha bag of notes for another bag of similar appearance containing rolls ,of paper. Tho thief eioapod unnotioed and no cine has yet been obtained as to his identity.
