WELLINGTON.
January 11.
A moit impudent robbery ocourred yesterday at the house of Mr John Plummer, an old and well-known resident in Wellington. On Sunday a man named Keuben Hind, who was before the Cnurt a short time ago for personating Mr Jellicoe, the lawyer, visited Mr Plummer, and pleading destitution, obtained some money from him. Yesterday evening, Mr Plummer, on returning home, met Bind coming out of the house with a parcel wrapped in green baize under his arm. The fellow said he had called to say good-bye, informing Mr Plummer he was about to leave Wellington. The latter unsuspiciously allowed bim to go, and afterwards found bis oishbox had disappeared with its contents, in* eluding £35 in money, a quantity of cheques, jewellery, and valuable documents. Hind was arrested this morning, and the jewellery and most of the money found on him. The box and document! have not yet been recovered. The residence of Captain Home, Sergeant at Arms, at the Lower flutr, was burned down at 11 a.m. It is supposed the fire blew out of the kitchen fire into the floor. Little was saved. The building and contents were insured for £ICOU, and the loss is £500 beyond that.
