No-further progress has been made towards filling the vactney in the Ministry caused by the resignation of Lord Churchill. The members of the Conservative party are sot themielvea agreed upon the course which should be adopted. Whilst the Marquis of Salisbury would willingly resign tbe Premiership to Lord Hartington in order to bring about coalition with the Unionist-Liberal party the Conservatives as a body are totally opposed to proposal to subordinate the representation of their party to Unionist'Liberato. The Russian frets is jubilant at the exposure of the weakness of the Marquis of Salisbury and his Cabinet. December 30.— The Cologne Gazette, in an article publshed yesterday, advocates tbeinitiation of systemof wholesale German •migration to the colony of Queensland, with a view of securing the ultimate annexation of that co'oay by the German Government. The Government Gazette considers highly essential that the German element in Australia should be strengthened as far as possible, in order to counteract the aggressive policy of Australia in the South Seas, which, it lays, is certain to bo vigorous!} enforced when the connection between the colonies and England it dissolved, at in its opinion it must very shortly be. It is announced that Germany has formally agreed to abstain from interfering with Russia in any action she may take with regard to Bulgaria. Austria is thus completely committed in any strife that may arise between that nation and Russia, as it is regarded as certain that England remains neutral in theoase of war between Buisia and Austria. Large numbers of manufacturers have promised to send exhibits to the South Australian Exhibition to be opened next • year. Up to the present 65,000 feet of space have been allotted intending contributors by tbe London Committee. January 1. — Lord Hartington andithc Leaders of the Unionist Liberals are prepared to join Salisbury and the Conservatives and torm a strong coah tion Government directly they are convinced that it will be the only means of preventing the return of Mr Gladstone to power. Lord Churchill is prepared to resume office provided Salisbury will nodertike throughly and completely to reorganise the Militia and War Department, bnt the Premier, it is believed, is unwilling to proceed any further with negotiations with the late Chancellor of the Exohequor. The Standard, in an article which it has just published on the Ministerial situation, expresses, the hope that Mr Gosobnn will consent to replace Lord Randolph Churchill in the Cabinet. Mr Chamberlain has expressed his intention of adhering to the policy adopted by Lord Hartington, la connetion with the crisis, the European press is unanimous in expressing grave anxiety at the present menacing attitude of Eastern embrogo, and draw tbe most nnpleasant outlook for tbe New Year.
