A party from the coist wera at Ureuui oa Thursday, when after partaking of refreshment, they went (in to tho Whito Clifß The natives do mt saem to approvo of tho new Native Land Act, and are opposed to selling their land under it. Tho natives say it is treating them like children. The periodical competition for the Taranaki Rifle Company's Challenge Belt, was taken by Sergeant C. Barribell, who topped tho score with 66. Thursday being the anniversary of tha groat bush tiro at Stratford, the settlers got up a sort of demonstration there to recognise the useful services of the New Ply> mouth and Hawera Firo Brigades last year. Thero was a large attendance, party going out in a buggy from here met with an accident, but no one was seriously hurt, O wine; to tho low price of butter, farmers aro pottiug down large quantities in antic - pat on of a foreign market becoming avail, able.
