(PER UNITED PRESS AmOCUTION.) AUCKLAND. January 8 Tito young men, Frederick Ellin aud Larry Small, were ohtrged at the Polico Court to-day with assault and robbery on nn elderly man about 11 o'clock last night It is stated that they seized him and took 18s from his pockets. The prisoners, who had been arrested on suspicion, were remanded till Friday next. A great fire has been raging since Thursday evening in tho Awaroa Swamp, near Kniuakn. Everything being so dry serious results arc apprehended. There are some 4090 acres over which tho fire has already gone, and it is still going on. A good dutl of fencing is burnt, but no honses as yet. A boy named Brierjy died at Newmarket yesterday from the kick of a horse. He was playing cricket on Tuosday, when the horse npproaohed the wicket, and in driving it away Brierly was kicked on the head, (sustaining cnucussion of tho brain.
