The resolution for new Custom*! duties having been passed, a Bill was brought in and passed its initial stagea, Several mem* bers have informed the Government that they intend to oppose theso duties step by stop, and take advantage of all forms of the Hcuse to prevent them passing. A large meeting held in the city has deoided against tho new duties as destructive to trade.

Several large steamers have been laid on for Kimberley, Lord Carrington visited the ! Viotoria yesterday, previous to her departure, and inspected all the arrangements. A large number of persons are leaving from here for the new goldfield. The death ia announced of the Hon J. B.
