Wanganui Herald. (PUBLISHED DAILY .) WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 17, 1884. THE PENSIONS ACT, 1884.
This Act is one of the short bills of last session, but oue very important and necessary. It provides tbat after the passing of that Act, no provision, superannuation, or other annual retiring al'owauce shall be granted without the k' owledge of the General Assembly. V\ hen any proposal to grant a pension or allowance is made to Parliament, the Controlltr and .Auditor-General must lay an official report on the table, upon the case of the pereou affected, and no action is to be taken towards securing the pension until the end of that session. In cas s where persona who are enjoying any superannuation or retiring allowance shall be appointed to fill any office in a public department, or become the recipients of money from the colonial revenue by way of salary, or allowance ; the pension is to cease during the time the second appointment is held, provided the salary is equal to or more than the amount drawn by pension. In cases where they are not equal to it, then the .balance will be made up from the pension allowance. This Act does not refer to the superannuation allowances granted to Judges of the Supreme Court by the Act of 1882, nor yet does it vitiate or annul any existing claim or right accrued for any pension or retiring allowance at the time of the Act coming into operation.
