At the Resident Magistrate's Court, Joseph Anderson, master of the barque Clifton, was fined £10 aud costs, for overloading his vessel, which brought coal and dynamite from Newcastle.

On Saturday last one of the promoters of the Kai Iwi Races, caino into town accompanied by Mr A. Tawse, for the purpose of making the nece.-sary application to the Colonial Secretary, for permission to have a totalisator on the ground. The application was signed by Colonial McDonnell, and translated by him prior to being forwarded to Wellington.
