• About eight or ten bullock drays loaded with 17<jasks of hui-hui, or mutton birds, • received from the Chatham Islands, via Lyttelton, were taken, out to Tarihaka > lately (says the Taranaki Herald). The > birds were a present sent by the natives of the Chatham Islands to Te Whiti, and it isexbected that a great feast will be held shortly at Parihaka. They are of a very » oily nature, and would. scarcely be palatable to a European, but the Maoris, who 1 are • accustomed to a shark diet, can thoroughly >- relish the mutton bird and esteem it a great • dainty.
