A Wellington contemporary says : Amongst other changes which will probably take place in the big " workshops " as the result of reform in the Civil Service, are the following : — The Native Department, after undergoing still further shrinkage, will become a branch of the Colonial Secretary s office. As a consequence of fusion between <xoldfields and Lands, it is probable that the Under- Secretary, Mr Wakefield, will be dis« established, but, probably some other post - will be found for one who has served the State so faithfully. Lands, Suryey.an'dGoltlfields are to be again united. These changes wilj. take place almost immediately.
