December 21.
William Henry Jones, manager of the Onehunga Iron Sanl Works, fired and wounded John McDermot'', a revolver bullet passing into the body at the middle of the back, and coming out at the arm. Jones and MeDermott had had a quarrel over cards in a public house. Jones fired two shots, the second one taking effect in the leg. It is not known whether the shot in the back is likely to be fatal or not. After the quarrel Jones went home and got the revolver, firing at MeDermott as he rode past on horseback. Jones is an American, and was arrested by Detective Walker.
