AN EDUCATIONAL DIFFICULTY.

a (PER UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) HoKITfKA, Dec. 17. An extraordinary state of affairs Ins arisen in Westland in connection with educational matters. Fora long time before lasb session the Westland Board of Education consisted almost exclusively of Greymouth members, and, as by HO possibility could the representation be adjusted, an Act, called the Westland Subdivision Act, became law. This Act divided the education district into the districts of Greymouth and Westland, and left the carrying out of the elections for the two new Boards to the old Board. Tho old Board fixed the last day of November to open the voting papers sent to them, but when they met refused to go on with the election. The Government gave them another chance to complete the election on the 13th of December, when the Board again met, but refused to proceed with opening the votes until Government became responsible for their liabilities, which now amount to an enormous sum. At a monster meeting here, a committee was appoiuted, Dr Gile 1, the Resident Magistrate, being chairman, to urge the Government to appoint a commissioner to complete the election under clause 9 of the Separation Act, and up to this time no information or reply of any kind can be obtained as to whether such will be done or not, On the Ist of January there will be two new school districts without any Board, and tho old Hoard without any dietriot,
