TO HE WILD VIOLET.
(IN ENGLAND) Thou spring-born boon tolonelylaneandfield ! Bow thy blue petals in soft April air, With scented breath — what garden flower can yield A joy so sweet aud rare ? Therose, the garden's queen, unhiding, turns "Her circles of bright charms to wind and sun, And spoaks of pleasures amid bowers audurns, From Art and Nature won. But thou, pure offspring of tho earth aud heaven, In beauty coy, by wandering breezes wooed, Art smile and kiss to human senses given, In Nature's sweetest mood. Simple as childhood's.pleasures, and as sweet, j ßloom while thou canst, for thou must perish soon ; Robbed by the winds and blanched by parching heat, Before the year's bright noon. H. L. T.
